# Install with mise

> Install and manage the CLI with mise

Install the `facet` CLI through [mise](https://mise.jdx.dev/getting-started.html). Install and activate mise in your shell before continuing.

**1. Install the CLI**

```sh theme={"theme":{"light":"github-light","dark":"github-dark"}}
mise use -g 'github:agent-facets/facets[version_prefix=agent-facets@]@latest'
```

This configures Facet globally. Omit `-g` to configure it for the current project instead.

Keep the explicit GitHub backend and `version_prefix` option. The `facet` registry shorthand is not the supported installation command yet.

**2. Verify the active binary**

```sh theme={"theme":{"light":"github-light","dark":"github-dark"}}
mise which facet
facet --version
```

If `facet` is missing or resolves to another installation, check your [mise shell activation](https://mise.jdx.dev/dev-tools/shims.html).

**3. Connect your coding tool**

Continue [setup](https://docs.agentfacets.io/guides/setup.md) to connect an adapter for your coding tool.

## Keep the CLI current

Use [`facet self-update`](https://docs.agentfacets.io/cli/self-update#mise-installs) to preview and apply an update. Automatic updates for this installation method require Facet 0.36.4 or newer.

For an older binary, update through mise first:

```sh theme={"theme":{"light":"github-light","dark":"github-dark"}}
mise use -g 'github:agent-facets/facets[version_prefix=agent-facets@]@latest'
```

For a project installation, omit `-g` and run the command from that project.

>
> mise 2026.10.19 has a known URL-lookup issue with `mise install --locked` for this backend. If you need locked installations, verify support in your mise version before adopting this method. Do not disable release verification as a workaround.
